Describe a famous athlete you know cue card for 2022 || WWW.AMANIELTS.IN ||

Introduction
:

  • I know many famous sportspersons and athletes but today I am going to talk about an Indian athlete who became famous just recently.

Who he/she is?

  • His name is Neeraj Chopra.

How do you know him/her? and What has he/she achieved?

  • He won the sole gold medal for India in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in the Javelin throw competition.

And explain why he/she is famous?

  • Nearly all the Indian news channels focused on him, after his feat.
  • That’s how I came to know about him.
  • I came to know how his interest developed in the javelin throw.
  • I learnt about the struggles he faced till now.
  • How he narrowly missed qualifying for the Olympics in 2016.
  • He could have scored a medal then as well.
  • However, the narrow miss strengthened his determination to perform well this time.
  • He said that he could have won a silver or a bronze medal the last time, but he might not have won the gold medal this time if he had won in 2016.
  • Both the national government and government of Haryana, his home state, awarded him financial awards for his amazing feat.
  • After listening to his interviews, I think that he has a great personality too.
  • I have started following him on Twitter and Instagram.
  • He actively posts about social issues.
  • I think famous people have a responsibility to talk about social issues because it creates awareness and brings a change in the general public.
  • I was very glad to know that he does that actively.
  • He’s a big philanthropist.
  • He has donated half of his financial awards to charities, although he himself belongs to a poor family.

Conclusion:

  • Learning about him has made me think that there might be thousands of people whose struggles and hard work die because they cannot win a medal.
  • I think the government must do more to make general people aware of them.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

Here some examples of follow up questions that you may asked during your speaking part 3 by examiner related to cue card “describe a famous athlete you know”.

1. What kinds of exercises do Indian people like?
Most Indian people are not very physically active. That is why there has been a drastic rise in diseases like obesity and diabetes in India. However, at the same time, many people in India go for a morning walk and do yoga.

2. What characteristics do you think an athlete should have?
I think the two most important qualities for an athlete are discipline and self-confidence. One cannot achieve success overnight; it requires regular hard work and that means discipline and discipline is not just restricted to exercise but also to diet. Moreover, in all sports and gymnastics, mental toughness is as important as physical fitness, if not more.

3. Why are there so few top athletes?
Because the journey to become a top athlete is full of struggles and obstacles. Although many people have the physical strength and fitness to reach the level, they don’t have the mental toughness required to keep going. In fact, many talented people let go in the middle because they are unable to keep up with the daily struggles and challenges.

4. What’s the best way to become a top athlete?
I think the first requirement to become a top athlete is to start early. Nearly all the athletes today are those who started when they were children. For example, Roger Federer started playing tennis at the age of three. Then, it’s all about willpower and dedication
