Interview questions & answers for UK Visa

The consular officer will ask a few questions to verify the details and documents the applicant shared. Here are a few common questions asked by the consular officer at the time of the visa interview based on the visa an applicant has applied for.


UK Tourist Visa

Q. Why are you going to the UK?

Tell the purpose of your visit to the UK. You can mention specific purposes like ‘I want to visit my family member and for tourism purposes’. 

Q. Have you been to the UK before?

Give the right answer as ‘yes’ or ‘no’. The officer may crosscheck your travel history to confirm this answer. 

Q. How long will you stay in the UK?

Tell the duration of your stay based on your travel plan. If you are going to visit multiple places in the UK, you can highlight your plan accordingly. 

Q. Who is sponsoring your visit?

If you are going to cover the travel expenses, you might be asked further questions related to your finances. The consular may ask further questions to ascertain if you have sufficient funds to cover your travel expenses. If someone else is covering your expenses, you can tell about their financial background.

Q. Would you like to work in the UK?

Since you have applied for a visitor’s visa, say ‘No’ and clearly mention your intentions of coming back to India after your travel period is over.  

Q. What do you do?

Mention your profession such as employee, self-employed, or retired person. 

Q. Do you have relatives in the UK? If yes, who?

Give the right answer – Yes or No. If your relatives live in the UK, explain your relationship with them. 

Q. Will you be travelling to the UK alone or anyone else will accompany you on your trip?

Answer your plan accordingly. If a married person is travelling alone, they may ask “Why isn’t your wife/husband accompanying you?”

Q. Where do you stay in India?

Provide them with details about your city and address.

Q. Where will you stay in the UK?

Mention the same address as on your visa application form.
