Questions for UK Student Visa

Individuals who want to visit the United Kingdom for study may be asked to attend an interview with the UK Embassy/Consulate to qualify for the UK Student Visa. The visa interview will decide whether you are eligible to visit the UK for education. Here are some common UK visa interview questions and answers for students.

Q. Why do you want to study in the UK?

Highlight your objective and benefits of visiting the United Kingdom for higher education. Explain how studying in the UK will help you shape your academic career and what you want to do after the completion of your education.

Q. Why did you choose to study this program/course?

You have to demonstrate that you know about the course you have applied for, referring to what interests you most in the course and why they are of benefit to you. You can mention unique features of the course, such as the professional accreditation and explain how it will benefit you personally and help you achieve your future career goals. 

Q. Have you visited the UK before?

Give the right answer as yes or no. The officer may crosscheck your travel history to confirm this answer. 

Q. Why did you choose to study in this college/university?

Ensure that you list multiple benefits offered by the college/university you have selected for higher education in the UK, such as academic quality, global ranking, teaching facilities, etc. You have to explain what research you have undertaken and provide the details about the university’s previous achievements and faculties. Highlights the benefits you will get after joining that particular college/university. 

Q. Where will you stay in the UK?

Mention the address where you will stay in the UK as per your visa application process. 

Q. What have you studied in India?

Explain the course/program you have studied previously in India including your school/institution; how choosing a particular course will enhance your previous study in terms of level.

Q. How much will your course cost?

Mention the exact tuition fees of your course per year. 

Q. How will you pay for your studies in the UK?

You should be able to explain how you are going to meet the cost of your education and stay in the UK. If your parents are covering your expense, mention the same and provide proof of sufficient funds that will cover your expense in the UK. If you are applying for a student loan, mention the details. 

Q. What do your parents do?

You can tell about your parents’ occupation including annual income if asked by the counselor.  

Q. Do you have any relatives or friends in the United Kingdom?

If yes, tell about them and mention your relationship like the type of relationship or how long you have known that friend. 

Q. Do you intend to work in the UK?

You should know the rules of working. If you are allowed to work as per your student visa, you can share the same, but be clear that work is not a priority for you. If you have no plan to work or you are not allowed, you should make this clear. 

The consular officer may also ask further questions about work after education. Based on your visa, you should be clear about your intention and plan.

Interview schedule

Based on your visa interview schedule and location, make sure that you arrive at the UK Embassy/Consulate 30 minutes before the visa interview for security checks. Also, you will have to stand in the line with others for your turn for a visa interview.
